About HerbDev
A former CTO who still gets into the systems.
I’m Herb Trevathan. I spent seven years as CTO of a software company, after building my experience in programming and systems work. I have led developers across multiple countries and time zones, managed teams and vendors, and remained hands-on with architecture, infrastructure, troubleshooting, and delivery.
My work spans older business systems, furniture industry software, EDI, APIs, databases, and modern cloud infrastructure. I have built and managed multi-account AWS architecture, modernized deployments with Docker, worked with PCI DSS requirements, and managed tools such as Slack and Jira. I understand the need to improve infrastructure while maintaining business continuity.
Clients should get understandable documentation and honest technical guidance.
If a project can be rescued, the next step should be clear. If it should be simplified or rebuilt, that should be clear too.
Talk to HerbOld systems. Modern tools. Practical judgment.
My eyes don’t glaze over when someone says AS/400. I can work with older platforms while helping a team adopt APIs, automation, and modern deployment practices. I use AI and Codex to accelerate analysis, documentation, testing, and implementation. The work is measured by whether it solves the business problem.
